Paris Olympics 2024: USWNT soccer group and medal schedule
View Date:2024-12-24 01:31:31
The 2024 Olympics, which kick off in less than three weeks for the U.S. women's national team, will see Emma Hayes' side looking to climb back to the top of the women's soccer world.
The USWNT's path through the Olympics starts in Group B, where it will face Zambia, Germany, and Australia. The women's soccer tournament essentially spans the entire Olympiad, with play beginning on July 25, a day before the Opening Ceremonies. Should the USWNT push through a difficult field to reach the gold medal game, its final contest at the Olympics will come on August 10, a day before the Closing Ceremonies.
The group stage begins with three groups of four, which will progress through a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will advance, along with the two third-placed teams that pick up the most points. Those eight sides progress to knockout play, which will proceed through the quarterfinals and semifinals before arriving at the medal rounds.
The women's soccer tournament will be played throughout France, with the USWNT set for matches in Nice and Marseille. Should the USWNT do well, matches in Paris, Lyon, or Nantes are all possible. Ultimately, the USWNT's objective is clear: battle through to August 10, when the gold medal game will be played at the Parc des Princes in Paris.
